ABOUT THE WORK
My work is grounded in non-representational geometric formalism dependent upon the controlled use of colour and composition. I am most comfortable moving fluidly between painting and collage while exploring and combining tactile materials including fibre. Whether building compositions in paint, paper or cut fabric, the challenge to achieve a measured elegance through structure is unchanging and in so doing, to establish composure from disarray. In the end, my work is less about the co-existence of fragments than it is about creating a new poetic hybrid.
After receiving a BFA from the University of Guelph and completing an MFA scholarship at the University of Windsor, Panko settled in Hamilton, Ont. She has been a practicing professional artist for 38 years exhibiting extensively within the region at both public and private galleries including solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (1990), Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant (2009), and the Art Gallery of Burlington (2012) among others. She has been represented locally by Gallery on the Bay and the Carnegie Gallery and is the recipient of numerous awards. Panko was an instructor in the Visual Arts Dept. at Brock University and has also taught at the Art Gallery of Burlington. She was a longtime member of the Dundas Valley School of Art faculty and served as Chair of the DVSA Gallery for 19 years.
